A Special Moment with Emeli Sandé at Good Times Festival
On Saturday 24 May, Rock Choir were invited to perform a special set at the Good Times Festival in Chipping Sodbury, with 500 Rockies taking to the stage ahead of headline act Emeli Sandé.
Performing to a packed festival crowd, Rock Choir Members from Bristol and the surrounding areas brought real atmosphere to the afternoon with a set packed full of well-known favourites and powerful vocals. Sharing the bill with one of the UK’s biggest artists made the occasion even more exciting, especially for members who already had a connection to Emeli’s music having already learnt her smash hit song Next To Me after it was added to the Rock Choir repertoire last year.
A memorable day of live music and shared connection
The atmosphere throughout the day was brilliant, with festivalgoers filling the site early and crowds gathering at the main stage to watch Rock Choir open the live music line-up. After finishing their performance, many Rockies stayed to watch Emeli Sandé headline later that evening. When she began performing Next To Me, Rock Choir Members in the crowd knew every word, having spent the last year singing the track themselves at concerts and events across the country, making the moment even more spectacular.
For Members, Good Times Festival marks another exciting milestone with Emeli Sandé, following her unforgettable performance at Rock Choir LIVE: The Ultimate Christmas Party, where she joined thousands of Rock Choir Members for a spectacular arena celebration of Rock Choir’s 20th anniversary!
A backstage moment to remember
Following Emeli’s set, Rock Choir Leaders Alex Hawker, Emma Webb and Mike Aris, along with a small number of Rockies, were invited backstage by Emeli’s team to meet her after the show. Although Emeli had missed Rock Choir’s earlier performance while preparing for her own headline set, she had heard about the choir’s appearance at the festival and wanted to pass on how much she admired Rock Choir and the community created by Caroline Redman Lusher MBE over the past 20 years.
Of course, an impromptu singalong of Next To Me had to happen, rounding off what had already been a fantastic day for everyone involved at the festival.
Part of the wider Rock Choir experience
Events like Good Times Festival continue to showcase the opportunities available to Rock Choir Members across the UK and Ireland, from arena performances and festivals to collaborations with major artists and large-scale live music events. The Rock Choir experience continues to create incredible special moments for members nationwide.
