✨ Vocal Yoga ✨
Included as an added value benefit to our Rock Choir membership, we are delighted to offer weekly term-time sessions of Vocal Yoga with our expert in this field, Katie Hockley.
Designed to promote wellness and improve vocal technique, Rock Choir members can join these online sessions through the links in their members’ area.
What is Vocal Yoga? 💭
The point of Vocal Yoga is to strengthen breath control and improve singing ability. Effective breath control is intrinsic to great singing, but more than this, if we can control our breathing, we can calm both the mind and body. Additionally, our voice is the ultimate healing tool – our own sound, created by our own physiology.
What to expect from a Vocal Yoga session 🧘♀️🧘
To ensure Vocal Yoga is accessible to everyone, is it predominantly a seated practice. During the sessions, we work through breathing, stretching and meditative practices to ensure we spend a little time on each area of importance. Life is hectic, so we optimise our time, and each session is book-ended with an uplifting Rock Choir song, either from the past catalogue or currently being taught in classes.
We use breathing techniques to get into a space where we can calmly invite the voice to step into its fullest expression. Then, together with specific vocal exercises, we can correct many problems and practice strengthening and, most importantly, trust our own sound.
