LEARN TO SIGN

Learn British Sign Language (BSL) with Rock Choir

Opening the door to connection, confidence, and inclusivity through British Sign Language.

At Rock Choir, we believe music should be accessible to everyone – and this includes our D/deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. That’s why we’re proud to offer all our members the chance to explore British Sign Language (BSL) through two unique experiences:

Rock and Sign
The Hands That Rock

Whether you’re curious to learn more about Deaf Awareness or passionate about becoming part of a signing performance group, this page will guide you through ‘Rock and Sign’ and ‘The Hands That Rock’.

“Being in a signing choir is the best way to learn BSL.”

Rock & Sign

Free signing sessions for every member!

Rock and Sign is an online initiative available to all Rock Choir members. Led by the inspiring Deaf musician and performer Paul Whittaker OBE, these sessions are relaxed, friendly, and packed with fun – no prior experience needed.
You’ll explore:

  • The basics of BSL and Deaf awareness
  • How to sign the lyrics to popular Rock Choir tracks
  • How to express rhythm, emotion, and meaning through sign language
  • The importance of inclusivity in music and performance

Each session lasts around an hour and is taught step by step, with full access to practice videos and resources in your Members Area. You’ll not only learn how to sign – you’ll understand the message and heart of the music on a whole new level.

Rock and Sign is open to every single Rock Choir member and runs regularly throughout the year. All dates and details can be found under the ‘Rock and Sign’ tab once you’re logged in.

Already a Rock Choir member? Log in to your Members Area to access the sessions - or become a member to unlock Rock and Sign and all of our exclusive extras.
