Recording at the World-Famous Abbey Road Studios
For many years, Rock Choir has established a trusted, longstanding relationship with Abbey Road Studios, creating extraordinary recording opportunities for Rock Choir Members inside one of the most important places in music history.
The Rock Choir Abbey Road Experience gives members the rare opportunity to step beyond the famous gates, enter the legendary studios and discover what it feels like to record together as professional artists.
Abbey Road has stood at the forefront of the recording industry for generations. Opened in 1931 as the world’s first purpose-built recording studio, it has played a defining role in the development of recorded music and remains one of the most recognisable and respected studios in the world.
Its iconic status draws visitors from across the globe, who gather outside the gates and recreate the famous album cover photograph on the nearby zebra crossing, hoping to catch a glimpse of the artists who continue to record there.
An Exclusive Rock Choir Member Experience
Access to Abbey Road Studios is highly exclusive and studio space is extremely difficult to secure. Through our longstanding relationship with Abbey Road, members have been able to enjoy special recording opportunities at this world-famous musical landmark for more than a decade.
Over the years, Rockies have walked in the footsteps of music royalty, from The Beatles and Pink Floyd to Kate Bush and Lady Gaga. Rock Choir Members have even spotted famous faces during their visits, including Canadian rock band Nickelback and filmmaker J.J. Abrams.
For many members, simply arriving at Abbey Road is an emotional moment. Walking through the entrance and into rooms associated with some of the most influential recordings ever made transforms the day into much more than a choir performance. It is a chance to become part of the studio’s continuing musical story.
Singing Together in Studios One and Two
The all-day experience gives members the opportunity to come together and sing as one choir in Studio One and Studio Two.
Studio One is the world’s largest purpose-built recording studio, with space to accommodate a full orchestra and choir. Its extraordinary scale and celebrated acoustics have made it an important home for orchestral music, major film scores and some of the most ambitious recording projects in the industry.
Studio Two is Abbey Road’s most famous recording space. The Beatles recorded much of their music within its walls, while generations of acclaimed artists have continued to use the studio, including Kate Bush, Oasis, Adele and many more.
More recently, artists including Harry Styles and RAYE have recorded at Abbey Road, continuing a musical legacy that spans classical music, film scores, rock, pop and contemporary chart music.
Recording in these remarkable rooms offers Rockies an insight into the magic behind the scenes and the work that goes into producing a song. Members experience the focus, excitement and teamwork involved in a professional recording session while blending their voices as one large choir.
“Their Eyes Just Light Up”
Sam Smith, Head of Creative at Rock Choir, said:
“Members say it is their favourite experience out of all the experiences they are offered with Rock Choir. When you walk into Studio Two, which is where The Beatles recorded most of their albums, there’s a smell, there’s a feeling and this kind of aura in the room.
When the members walk in, their eyes just light up. The feeling they get in that room is incredible.”
Leading Hundreds of Rockies at Abbey Road
Rock Choir Leader Jan Moll has led sessions at Abbey Road over the years, alongside many other Rock Choir Leaders who have had the privilege of conducting hundreds of members during the experience.
Jan said:
“This is the second time I have been lucky enough to take my members to Abbey Road and what an experience it is. In the many years I have worked with Rock Choir, it is definitely one of the highlight events in the calendar.
It feels magical, special, daunting and exciting, just a lot of special feelings rolled into one.
I am always very proud of all our Rockies. They sing from their hearts with passion, smiles and pride befitting of such a special experience.”
Memories That Stay with Members Forever
The excitement of recording at Abbey Road does not end when the final note has been sung. The recording day includes memorable keepsakes such as professional photographs, MP3s of the recorded songs and often a video montage.
Members can relive the memories, listen to the music they created together and share the finished recordings with their friends and family.
The reaction from Rockies who have taken part shows just how much the experience means. Members have described it as “one of the best days of my life”, “a dream come true” and “a memory I will never forget”.
For some, the opportunity has particular significance because of their love of The Beatles and Abbey Road’s musical history. For others, it is the feeling of recording alongside friends, experiencing the professionalism of the studios and hearing hundreds of voices come together that makes the day so powerful.
One Rockie described still feeling “goosebumps” whenever they thought about singing at Abbey Road, while another said they genuinely felt like a rock star. Many members have also shared that the experience became the highlight of their Rock Choir membership.
