More Than £20,000 Raised Through 24 Hours of Continuous Singing
The Rock Choir Midlands Singathon brought together more than 1,000 singers from across the Midlands for an ambitious fundraising challenge, raising over £20,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
Taking place in Derby and Redditch, the two singathons created 24 combined hours of live music, making them one of the largest singing charity events ever staged by Rock Choir in the Midlands and surrounding areas.
From 9am until 9pm on Friday 12 June, Rock Choir Members kept the music going continuously in support of two children’s charities: Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People in the East Midlands, and Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the West Midlands.
The Rock Choir Midlands Singathon took place at Redditch United FC and Spondon Cricket Club in Derby, with singers performing relay style throughout the day to ensure there was always a song being sung.
Rock Choir Midlands Singathon Brings Over 1,000 Voices Together
The scale of the challenge was remarkable. Throughout the day, singers stepped on and off stage in relay-style groups while the music continued uninterrupted. Every song performed helped raise funds for children and families facing some of life’s toughest challenges.
Family members, friends and local supporters joined the events throughout the day, creating a fantastic atmosphere at both venues. The combination of live music, fundraising and community spirit helped make the singathons a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Bringing together singers from across the region also gave many members the opportunity to perform alongside Rockies from other choirs, creating a shared experience that reflected the scale of the challenge.
24 Hours of Live Music Across Derby and Redditch
Together, the two events delivered 24 combined hours of continuous live music. Whether performing in Derby or Redditch, members remained focused on the shared goal of raising as much money as possible for two charities that provide invaluable support to children, young people and their families.
The challenge required commitment, stamina and enthusiasm from everyone involved, but the atmosphere remained positive from the opening songs through to the final performances of the evening.
11 Rock Choir Leaders Keep The Music Going
Led by 11 Rock Choir Leaders, the setlist featured crowd favourites including Somewhere Only We Know, Don’t Stop Me Now and I’ll Be There For You.
These well-loved songs helped maintain the energy throughout the day, with singers and supporters joining together to celebrate every milestone reached during the challenge.
The event showcased the enthusiasm and commitment of Rock Choir members while highlighting the positive impact that music can have when people come together behind a shared cause.
A First Singathon for Redditch
Rock Choir Leader Sonia Eyre, who runs choirs in the West Midlands and Staffordshire, reflected on the success of the event:
“It was the first time we’ve done the singathon and the members had a brilliant time at Redditch United FC. We were singing for 12 hours in the standing terraces. We had family and friends watching and people from the football club too. Everyone left with a smile on their face.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported us – a 12-hour Rock Choir singathon isn’t something you do every day. Rock Choir Members and their family and friends have been so generous supporting our fundraiser.”
Raising Money for Two Incredible Charities
The funds raised through the Rock Choir Midlands Singathon will support the important work carried out by Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
Rock Choir Leader Danny McCormack highlighted the spirit that carried members through the challenge:
“Bringing the whole region to sing together for the amazing causes brought Rockies from across the Midlands together in song.
Knowing the difference the money can make to the charities just kept everyone punching through and singing until the very end.”
The Rock Choir Midlands Singathon now stands as a proud fundraising achievement, bringing together more than 1,000 singers, 11 Rock Choir Leaders, family members, supporters and local communities in support of two exceptional causes.
Raising more than £20,000 through 24 hours of continuous singing, the event demonstrated what can be achieved when our Rock Choir community comes together through music for charities that make a real difference every day.
