Courtney Charman – Rock Choir Worthing
Courtney first discovered Rock Choir through the website after deciding she wanted to reconnect with singing as an adult.
Having enjoyed choirs as a child, joining her local Rock Choir in Worthing, West Sussex felt like the perfect opportunity to rediscover that love of music again.
A first session that meant everything
One of Courtney’s strongest memories is actually from the very end of her first rehearsal.
“My favourite moment since joining Rock Choir was the end of my first session.”
Walking away from that first evening brought a huge sense of happiness and relief.
“It meant such a lot to me and I was so glad I went!”
From the beginning, Courtney says everybody was welcoming, supportive and helped her feel completely at ease within the choir environment.
An unforgettable first performance
Since joining Rock Choir, Courtney has already experienced moments she knows she will always remember.
“My favourite Rock Choir memory was my first ever performance.”

One of the most important things about Rock Choir for Courtney is the sense of inclusion and freedom she feels during rehearsals and performances.
“As a person with a disability what I love most about Rock Choir is the fact that for me it doesn’t have any barriers.”
Rather than focusing on limitations, choir has become a place where she can simply enjoy singing, friendship and being part of the group.
“When I’m part of the choir I’m just there to sing, have fun and spend time with lovely people.”
That feeling of belonging has had a huge impact on Courtney’s confidence and wellbeing.
A place to feel comfortable and supported
Courtney also appreciates the support and understanding shown by the local Worthing community.
“Everyone was so welcoming and supportive and made me feel at such ease.”
The support from the choir has helped create an environment where rehearsals and performances feel accessible, comfortable and enjoyable.
