Dacia Kelly – Rock Choir Plymouth
Dacia first discovered Rock Choir after seeing an advert and deciding to take a chance on something new.
“I thought I’d give it a go.”
Attending that first rehearsal on her own was a big step, but it quickly proved to be one of the best decisions she could have made.
Finding new interests after retirement
When Dacia retired, she knew it was important to stay active, meet new people and find new interests to enjoy.
“When I retired I knew it was important to find new interests and meet new people.”
Rock Choir provided exactly that.
Through weekly rehearsals, performances and friendships, she found a new passion that continues to bring enjoyment and purpose to her life.
“I have made new friends as a result.”
Performing at the Edinburgh Fringe
Among the many experiences Dacia has enjoyed with Rock Choir, one stands above the rest.
“The highlight was performing at the Edinburgh Fringe.”
Performing at the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival became even more special because members of her Scottish family were able to come along and watch.
“My Scottish family came to see our performance.”
Sharing that experience with loved ones created a memory she will always treasure.
Singing on Plymouth Hoe
Closer to home, one of Dacia’s favourite performances takes place each year at Armed Forces Day on Plymouth Hoe.
“I particularly like performing at Armed Forces Day on Plymouth Hoe.”
The historic waterfront location is one of Plymouth’s most famous landmarks and regularly hosts major community events and celebrations.
The occasion has a special meaning for Dacia, whose husband served in the Royal Navy.
After moving to Plymouth from Scotland following their marriage, she developed a deep connection with the city and enjoys every opportunity to perform there.
“I love Plymouth.”
Friendship, music and new experiences
Looking back, Dacia says Rock Choir has brought far more into her life than she ever expected when she first responded to that advert.
“It has been one of the best decisions I have made.”
From making new friends to performing at iconic events and venues, Rock Choir has become an important part of her retirement, providing music, community and experiences she continues to enjoy.
