Keith Durrant – Rock Choir Wadebridge
Keith’s Rock Choir journey began in an unexpected way. While at his local leisure centre, he overheard two people talking about choir and became curious enough to find out more.
“I became inquisitive.”
Those two people would later become friends, and within a short time Keith found himself attending his local Rock Choir in Wadebridge, Cornwall.
Looking back now, he says it was one of the best decisions he has ever made.
Finding friendship and belonging
Keith retired to Cornwall eight years ago and, like many people moving to a new area, found himself needing to build new friendships and connections.
“I didn’t know many people and was completely out of my comfort zone.”
He wanted to meet people, explore new places and find a sense of belonging.
Rock Choir helped him achieve all three.
“I now have numerous friends, am much healthier and to top it all, I am a member of a very joyous community of Rockies.”
Through weekly rehearsals, performances and social connections, Keith found exactly the welcoming community he had been searching for.
The emotion of a first performance
One memory remains especially powerful.
Keith had only been a member for four weeks when he took part in his first performance at Stithians Showground.
“I was very nervous.”
But once the singing began, something unexpected happened.
“When we all started to sing, I got very emotional at the beautiful sound we made.”
The experience left a lasting impression and demonstrated the power of many voices coming together as one.
“Simply by singing together as a harmonious group.”
Singing in Truro Cathedral
Among Keith’s many Rock Choir experiences, one performance stands out above the rest.
“Singing in Truro Cathedral.”
As one of Cornwall’s most recognisable landmarks, Truro Cathedral is known for its stunning Gothic Revival architecture and remarkable acoustics, making it a memorable venue for any singer.
For Keith, it remains one of his proudest Rock Choir moments.
A community built on kindness
One of the things Keith values most is the people around him.
“The prefects are all lovely, helpful people.”
He speaks warmly about the friendships he has made and the enjoyment of hearing other members’ stories and experiences.
“My fellow Rockies are all so friendly.”
He also appreciates the variety of music performed by Rock Choir, enjoying everything from emotional ballads to uplifting crowd favourites.
“We have such a varied repertoire that we get to be both serious and fun in our performances.”

Today, Keith is passionate about encouraging others to give Rock Choir a try.

After finding friendship, confidence, community and countless memorable experiences, he hopes others might discover the same benefits he has.

For Keith, what began as overhearing a conversation at a leisure centre became the start of a completely new chapter.
