Sally Houchen – Rock Choir King’s Lynn

Sally has always had a love of singing, having spent many years involved in amateur dramatic groups.

At a time when she was feeling low, a conversation with her aunt encouraged her to start singing again. That moment led her to book a taster session with her local Rock Choir in King’s Lynn, something she now looks back on as a turning point.

“Rock Choir is like therapy for me and has begun to help bring me back to the happy, confident self I was.”

Finding her way back to singing

Returning to singing brought something familiar back into Sally’s life, but in a new and supportive environment.

Through her local choir in King’s Lynn, she has been able to reconnect with music while also meeting new people along the way.

“I have also made lots of friends along the way.”

A place that lifts your mood

For Sally, Rock Choir has become something she looks forward to each week.

“Because it is like human sunshine!”

That feeling captures the atmosphere she has found within the group, where music and people come together to create something uplifting.

A memorable first performance

One of Sally’s early experiences performing with Rock Choir is something she will always remember.

“I have only performed once. I was enjoying it so much, the fold up chair I was sat on collapsed from under me.”

Despite the surprise of the moment, what stayed with her most was how those around her responded.

“Everyone was so kind and caring.”

Once she had recovered, she was encouraged to carry on and enjoy the experience, with those around her checking in and making sure she was alright.

Feeling part of the group

That moment reinforced something important for Sally.

“I feel I belong and it’s a lovely feeling.”

Being part of a group where people look out for one another has made a real difference, creating an environment where she feels comfortable and supported.

She also finds that the music itself has a strong emotional impact.

“The harmonies make me very emotional too, but no one comments or minds because everyone there loves music and singing.”

Music, emotion and connection

For Sally, Rock Choir brings together everything she values about singing.

From reconnecting with music to building friendships and feeling supported, it has become a place where she can be herself and enjoy every moment.
