700 Rock Choir Voices Take the Stage at The Glasshouse

More than 700 Rock Choir members came together on stage at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Newcastle to celebrate a very special milestone: 15 years of Rock Choir in the North East.

Bringing singers together from across the region, the concert was a vibrant celebration of our Rock Choir community. Members from Chester-Le-Street, Durham, Hexham, Newcastle/Jesmond, Ponteland and Sunderland filled the stage to perform a feel-good programme of well-known pop songs and emotional ballads that reflected the energy and spirit of our choirs.

For many members, performing at such a prestigious venue was a proud and unforgettable moment in their Rock Choir journey. With a packed audience of friends, family and supporters, The Glasshouse was filled with excitement, pride and celebration as the North East choirs marked fifteen years of singing together.

Celebrating 15 years of Rock Choir in the North East

This special event marked fifteen years since Rock Choir first began rehearsing in the North East. Over that time our community in the region has grown steadily, bringing people together through music, friendship and shared experiences.

Today around 1,000 members sing with Rock Choir across the North East. Each week our singers gather in their local communities to enjoy uplifting rehearsals, learn new songs and experience the many benefits that come from singing together.

The celebration at The Glasshouse reflected everything that makes our Rock Choir community so special in the region: friendship, confidence, music and the joy of sharing the experience together.

Bringing 700 voices together on one stage

The performance was led by Rock Choir Leader Rob Slater, who has led choirs across the North East since Rock Choir first began in the region fifteen years ago.

Under his direction, the singers performed a varied programme of popular chart hits and well-loved songs from the Rock Choir repertoire. These songs had been rehearsed in weekly sessions across the region before members came together for this landmark performance.

Bringing more than 700 singers together on one stage created a powerful moment for our Rock Choir North East community. Members who usually rehearse in smaller local groups were able to unite as one choir, sharing the experience of performing side by side.

Reflecting on the occasion, Rob Slater said: “Seeing hundreds of our members on that stage, united by music, friendship and sheer joy, was incredibly moving. The energy in the room reminded us exactly why Rock Choir exists, to bring people together and create unforgettable shared experiences.”

A moment shared by the whole Rock Choir community

While the concert celebrated music and performance, it also reflected the connections that grow through being part of our Rock Choir community.

For many members, rehearsals and events become an important part of their weekly routine. Singing together brings people from different backgrounds and communities into one welcoming environment where music, laughter and encouragement are shared.

Seeing hundreds of singers performing together at The Glasshouse captured that spirit perfectly. It was a celebration not only of the music, but of the friendships and shared journey that have grown across the North East over the past fifteen years.

Continuing the Rock Choir journey

This concert marked a proud milestone for Rock Choir in the North East and a celebration of fifteen years of music, community and shared experiences.

Rehearsals continue each week across the region, welcoming new members who want to experience the joy of singing together and become part of our Rock Choir community.

The celebration at The Glasshouse now stands as a special moment in the story of Rock Choir North East, and a reminder that our journey of singing together continues.
