Collectively raising over £20,800 to support the Mental Health Foundation
Our Rock Choir “Fix You” project brought voices together nationwide for a special recording and music video that combined music, community and a shared message of hope. Inspired by the Coldplay song, the project invited Rock Choir members, along with friends and family, to take part in a mass recording that reflected the strength of our one-choir experience.
Created during Mental Health Awareness Week to raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation, the project celebrated the positive impact that singing together can have on mental wellbeing. Members learned the specially arranged Rock Choir version of the song, recorded their vocals and submitted them to be blended into one moving performance featuring more than 1,000 voices.
The finished recording became an official Rock Choir charity single and formed the soundtrack to a moving music video filmed at Torre Abbey on the beautiful South Devon coast. From the first note to the final release, the project reflected what means so much to us as a community: coming together through music, supporting one another and creating something meaningful as one.
More than 1,000 voices coming together as one
The “Fix You” recording project connected our Rock Choir community in a way that reached far beyond rehearsals. Members from many regions took part by learning the arrangement through online tutorials, recording their vocal parts on phones or home devices and sending them in to be mixed into the final track.
Each voice became part of something bigger. Together, those recordings were woven into a rich one-choir sound that allowed singers of all abilities to feel comfortable taking part. Whether someone had been singing with us for years or had only recently joined the Rock Choir journey, the project made space for everyone to be involved.
Alongside the home recordings, Rock Choir members in South Devon were filmed for the official music video, holding messages of inspiration and hope. Those scenes captured the warmth, togetherness and life-affirming spirit that sit at the heart of our Rock Choir community.
A song choice filled with meaning
“Fix You” was chosen for its message of comfort, care and support during difficult times. Its words connected naturally with the purpose of the project and with our belief in the emotional benefits of group singing. It gave us the opportunity to create something thoughtful and uplifting while supporting an important cause.
Rock Choir Leader Richard Toomer created the arrangement and also performed the distinctive violin solo featured on the track. His contribution helped shape a recording that felt both intimate and powerful, while the final video brought the whole project to life visually in a way that felt honest and heartfelt.
When the single was released, the response from our community was wonderful. Together, we raised over £20,800 for the Mental Health Foundation. The single also reached number 28 in the Official Singles Sales Chart, number 26 in the Official Download Chart, number 10 in the iTunes overall chart and number 6 in the iTunes Pop chart. Members and supporters helped carry the song even further by downloading, streaming and sharing it widely.
As part of the release, we thanked everyone involved with these words: “We’d love to say a massive thank you to everyone who recorded their voice, to all those who helped create the video behind the scenes and to all of you who have already donated to the truly worthy cause of the Mental Health Foundation.”
The wellbeing power of singing together
Beyond the fundraising and chart success, this project reflected something deeply important about the Rock Choir experience. Singing together can lift confidence, strengthen connection and remind people that they are part of something welcoming and supportive. That sense of belonging runs through everything we do.
For many who took part, hearing their voice become part of a shared sound was a powerful reminder that music brings people together in a very special way. No one had to stand alone. Instead, every contribution became part of a collective performance shaped by encouragement, friendship and a shared sense of purpose.
Projects like this show how our community can support wellbeing while also creating moments of real connection. Through music, we build confidence, share joy and continue a journey that means so much to so many people.
A proud part of our Rock Choir journey
The success of the “Fix You” project remains a proud moment for us all. It showed how, when we come together through music, we can create something uplifting that reaches far beyond the performance itself. It was about more than recording a song. It was about connection, compassion and using our voices in support of others.
By bringing together music, fundraising and community spirit, the project captured the heart of our Rock Choir journey. It remains a lasting example of how our nationwide community can come together as one, support important causes and share the life-affirming power of singing together.
