Janet Foyle – Rock Choir Sheffield
Janet first discovered Rock Choir a few years before her retirement, looking for something just for herself.
After seeing an advert on Facebook, she decided to give it a try.
“Best thing I’ve done, it’s seen me through ups and downs.”
Now, as she approaches her 10th year with Rock Choir, singing has become an essential part of her life, providing both comfort and purpose.
Finding purpose and belonging
For Janet, Rock Choir has become a source of strength and stability, especially during challenging times.
“I need my Rockies, singing gives me a purpose to be me.”
The choir has given her something to look forward to, and a way to connect with people who share her passion for singing and community.
Friendships, fun and good vibes
One of Janet’s favourite parts of being in Rock Choir is the friendships she has made.
“Making friends, lots of singing and laughs along the way.”
Rehearsals have become a space where she can share joyful moments with others while doing something she loves.
The positive atmosphere has been a key part of why she continues to return week after week.
Performing in iconic places
Among the many performances Janet has been part of, one stands out as especially memorable, singing in Sheffield cathedral!
The sheer scale and beauty of the space, combined with the power of singing in a group, created a truly special experience she will always cherish.
The joy of performing for others
What really brings Janet joy is sharing her music with others, and seeing the reactions of the audience.
“I love singing, it gives you that energy to perform.”
Having her family come along to watch and seeing the smiles on people’s faces has made every performance feel even more meaningful.
Above all, being part of the Rock Choir family has given her a sense of belonging.
“To belong to the Rockies family.”
For Janet, Rock Choir has been far more than just a place to sing. It’s been a community that has supported her, brought laughter, and filled her life with music.
