Jennifer Meech – Rock Choir Southampton

Jennifer first discovered Rock Choir through her mum, who joined before her and quickly introduced her to the experience.

“My Mum joined first and converted me fairly quickly once I heard her practising the great selection of songs.”

Hearing those songs at home sparked something immediately, and it wasn’t long before Jennifer became part of her local Rock Choir in Southampton too.

Performances that stay with her

Since joining, Jennifer has taken part in many memorable performances and says choosing just one favourite experience is almost impossible.

Among the standout moments for her have been singing at St Michael’s Church for a Spring concert and performing at Christmas lights switch-on events in Southampton city centre.

She especially enjoyed singing around a Christmas tree in her Santa hat during one local festive event, capturing the atmosphere and fun that comes with performing together as part of the choir.

A weekend to remember

Another highlight was attending Rock Choir LIVE alongside close friends from the choir.

“I had an amazing time at Rock Choir LIVE with all my fabulous friends.”

Making a full weekend of the experience, surrounded by music and other Rockies, made it even more special.

“The atmosphere was fantastic.”

Time to switch off and just sing

For Jennifer, Rock Choir provides something important outside the demands of work and family life.

“It is an opportunity to completely switch off from work and family life and just live in the moment.”

Those weekly rehearsals and performances allow her to focus fully on the music and enjoy the feeling of singing as part of a larger group.

“There is a power in singing as part of a group that bonds us all together and really lifts our spirits.”

Feeling proud to perform

Jennifer also loves seeing the reaction from audiences during performances.

“There is something very special about seeing the reactions of the audience whilst we are singing.”

Whether watching recordings back afterwards or hearing positive comments from members of the public, those moments leave her feeling incredibly proud.

A place where she feels at home

One of the things Jennifer values most is the sense of belonging she has found through Rock Choir.

“My choir is really friendly and welcoming.”

She enjoys catching up with Rockies from other choirs at events across the region and says she always feels comfortable being completely herself at rehearsals and performances.

“I always feel at home.”

From festive performances in Southampton to weekends away with fellow members, Rock Choir has become a place where Jennifer can relax, perform, connect with others and enjoy every moment of singing together.
