Kayla Ashdown – Rock Choir Bexleyheath & Eltham

Kayla joined Rock Choir while looking for a new singing group after spending several years in a performing arts setting.

When that chapter came to an end, she wanted something that would keep her connected to music and give her a reason to get out and meet people. That search led her to her local Rock Choir in the Bexleyheath and Eltham area.

Continuing a love of singing

Singing had already been an important part of Kayla’s life, and Rock Choir gave her a way to continue that in a new and welcoming environment.

Being part of a local choir meant she could keep doing something she enjoys, while also meeting new people along the way.

A community that makes a difference

From the start, it was the atmosphere that stood out most.

“Rock Choir is like one big family and there is always someone to talk to if you need support.”

That sense of connection has made it a place she can rely on, both for singing and for being around people who are there for each other.

Returning to performance

Kayla has also had the chance to reconnect with performing, something she had missed.

“My favourite performance has been at the Bob Hope Theatre in Eltham to raise money for New Hope Animal Rescue.”

The Bob Hope Theatre, a well-known venue in Eltham, made the experience even more memorable, combining performance with a meaningful local cause.

She has also enjoyed learning a wide mix of songs.

“It is so hard to just choose 1 or 2 favourite songs but I would probably have to say A Thousand Years and I’ll Be There For You.”

Growing in confidence

Alongside her time in choir, Kayla has explored new opportunities that have helped her build confidence in different ways.

“One of the members of The Hands That Rock runs a BSL group in the area which I have been attending and it has helped me to feel more confident with sign language.”

These experiences show how being part of Rock Choir can open up new connections beyond the weekly rehearsals.

More than just singing

For Kayla, Rock Choir brings together everything she enjoys.

“It isn’t just about the chocolates or the funny vocal warmups but about the sense of community.”

From continuing her love of singing to building friendships and confidence, it has become a place where she feels supported and part of something shared.
