Tony Johnson

Choir Leader Tony Johnson runs Rock Choir in Thanet, Rock Choir in Canterbury and Rock Choir in Deal.

Tony is a professional singer, songwriter and musician. For 50 years he has entertained the public on stage as a ‘Front Man’ at numerous weddings, corporate events, private parties and cruises and he still regularly performs in pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants across the UK and in Europe. Following in his fathers’ footsteps he is proud to continue the family tradition of singing, playing the piano and entertaining in public.

Tony started learning the piano at 5 and completed his piano grades at 15. He then went on to study music at Sir Roger Manwoods’ Grammar School Sandwich and formed his first rock band The JJP Band in 1974, followed by Isengard in 1980. Writing all original material, singing, playing keyboards and professionally recording songs, he released his first rock album with Isengard in 1984 with a 45 rpm single and his second album in 1994 with The Passion. Many other bands came and went over the years including Birts Boogie Band, Tickled Pink, The Passion, The Kingsdown Band and Live’N’Kickin’. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s Tony also worked on stage in musicals, dramas, pantomimes and also with the BBC.

He still performs in public as a Solo Singer playing piano with a wide and varied repertoire in excess of 400 songs and also continues to work with his guitar blues duo called The Blues Brothers as well as his own 6 piece rock band. Tony has lived in South East Kent all his life and has been happily married to Sharon for over 30 years. They have 2 wonderful children, Jess and Joe, and 3 beautiful grandchildren Ryder, Raffy and little Etta (named after Etta James). “I am very proud and honoured to have found my dream job in becoming a Rock Choir Leader and cannot wait for all the fun, exciting, emotional and inspirational times to share with all my fellow Rockies.”
