Rachael is a singer, vocal tutor, and proud Choir Leader for the Inverurie, Aberdeen, and West Aberdeen Evening Rock Choirs. A local “quine” (girl), born and raised in Aberdeen, her performance journey began at the grand old age of four… dressed head-to-toe in a chicken costume. Her big moment? Waddling on and off stage in the local pantomime, belting out “Hey Little Hen.” It was peak “awww” factor – and the exact moment she realised she was destined for the stage.
Since then, music has been the heart and soul of everything Rachael does. Most recently, she earned her Diploma in Musical Theatre Performance from the London College of Music, a milestone that reflects her commitment to continuous learning and growth. Rachael has trained extensively in both classical and musical theatre styles and also holds ABRSM qualifications in piano and music theory, along with Trinity Music exams in tenor saxophone. Basically, if it makes a noise, she’ll give it a go!
With over 25 years of performance experience, Rachael has been lucky enough to sing in everything from musical theatre productions and operas to pantomimes, festivals, and concerts all across the UK. Every show has deepened her love for performing and reinforced her belief that singing in a group is one of the most powerful, joyful things people can do (especially when there’s cake afterwards).
As a Rock Choir Leader, Rachael gets to combine all her favourite things – music, teaching, performance, and people – and somehow call it a job. Her sessions are all about community, confidence, and laughter. Whether someone is an experienced singer or a complete beginner, they’re always welcome in her choir. If they leave with an earworm and a sore belly from laughing, Rachael knows she’s done her job. And if all else fails, they just “gie it laldy!”
Rachael has had some unforgettable career highlights with Rock Choir over the years. Alongside her amazing colleagues, she’s performed at the BBC Proms in the Park in front of 40,000 people, rehearsed with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, and taken to the stage at both Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and Perth Concert Hall. One of the greatest joys of her role is being able to pass these opportunities on to her choir members, giving them the chance to sing at the Edinburgh Fringe, perform alongside Russell Watson and Aled Jones on their UK tour, and be part of countless local charity and community events throughout the year that really make a difference.
Joining the Rock Choir team has genuinely been a dream come true for Rachael. It’s given her the chance to turn what she loves into a joyful, harmony-filled, slightly chaotic (in the best way) career. She’s ridiculously proud of everything the choir has achieved so far… and is very excited for whatever comes next!
