Aimee Smith
Growing up in a house where music was constant, it’s no surprise Aimee is obsessed with everything music related. She started singing and dance lessons at 7 years old when her mum realised she was a very nervous child and needed a way to express herself. Once singing became Aimee’s first love, she started piano lessons so that she would be able to accompany herself in the future.
At 18, Aimee moved to Brighton to study songwriting at BIMM and ended up meeting other musicians that would become her peers in the touring circuit. Once she graduated, she started her career in the session player world, most notably on backing vocals/keys/percussion with 90’s Britpop legends, Sleeper. More recently she’s worked with breakthrough band Another Sky, electronic jazz-pop producer Macaq and social media popstar, Rachel Grae. These have taken her to amazing venues such as The Roundhouse, Manchester Albert Hall and Shepherd’s Bush Empire as well as festivals like Love Supreme, The Big Feastival, Victorious Festival and Tramlines to name a few.
Playing for others has been a real whirlwind and recently propelled her into writing, arranging and recording music for her own project, ‘aimate’ – contemporary, electronic R&B with a nod to all the soul music she grew up on.
Alongside playing, Aimee is an avid record collector and loves crate digging whenever she finds a new record shop. She loves all genres of music but some of her biggest influences include Prince, The Carpenters, Hall & Oates and Eva Cassidy.
From all her years in the industry – stage presence and confidence is her speciality so she feels truly honoured to share the joy with Rock Choir!
