Mark Williamson – Rock Choir Rochester

Mark Williamson discovered Rock Choir by chance while watching television, searching for orchestral or stage music. Instead, he came across something completely different, and it immediately caught his attention.

“After watching the whole Rock Choir performance I thought it would be great to be in a fantastic choir like that!”

Curious to find out more, he searched online and was pleased to discover there was a Rock Choir rehearsing just a couple of miles away from him in Rochester. It felt like the perfect opportunity to give it a go, so he signed up for a taster session.

From that moment on, something clicked.

From that first step

Taking that first step into rehearsal led to something Mark had not expected.

“Belonging to Rock Choir has changed my life!”

Rehearsal evenings quickly became something he genuinely looked forward to, and it was not long before he was fully involved in everything he could be part of.

“I can’t wait for practice evening and I sign up for every performance I can.”

Whether it is rehearsal or performance, Mark enjoys every minute of being part of it.

The thrill of performing

For Mark, one of the most exciting parts of being involved is stepping in front of an audience.

“One of the best parts of being with Rock Choir is performing in front of an audience, the larger the better!”

There is a real sense of energy in those moments, something that keeps him coming back time and time again.

“Like one very big family”

Alongside the music, it is the people that make the experience what it is for Mark.

“I love Rock Choir because it is like one very big family.”

He speaks about how welcoming and friendly everyone is, not just within his own choir, but across the wider Rock Choir community nationwide.

“Even if you meet someone from another Rock Choir that you have not seen before it’s as though you already know them as a good friend!”

That sense of connection has become a big part of what he values most.

“My coat of many colours”

Outside of Rock Choir, Mark enjoys a range of interests, including learning to play the violin, indoor bowls and coffee mornings.

Even so, one thing stands out above the rest.

“But the Rock Choir eclipses them all!!”

For Mark, being part of Rock Choir brings everything together.

“Rock Choir, to quote from a well known musical, is my ‘coat of many colours’.”

From that first moment watching a performance on television to becoming part of his local Rock Choir in Rochester, it has grown into something he enjoys every single week.
