Rock Choir - Lord’s Cricket Ground

300 Rockies Perform at the Home of Cricket

300 Rock Choir Members performed at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on 11 July, taking part in a landmark day in cricketing history. Their voices echoed around the famous venue as they sang from the stands ahead of the historic Women’s Test Match between England and India.

Rockies from across London and the Home Counties travelled to the capital for the prestigious occasion, joining thousands of fans to witness the first Women’s Test Match ever to be played at Lord’s. The milestone came exactly 50 years after England captain Rachael Heyhoe Flint led the England Women’s team onto the legendary pitch. The event also set a world record for attendance at a Women’s Test Match, with 37,846 spectators.

As spectators arrived, they were greeted by the sound of hundreds of Rock Choir Members singing at the entrances. Later, as fans took their seats, Rockies delighted onlookers with a variety of uplifting songs from the Rock Choir repertoire. Members also enjoyed a starring moment when the choir appeared on the giant screen inside the ground.

Rockies relished the opportunity to perform at the famous venue while sharing the new term’s uplifting songs with the crowds. Hold The Line by Toto had spectators singing along, while I’ll Be There for You, the much-loved theme tune from the television series Friends, proved another popular choice.

Alongside the performances, spectators were treated to world-class cricket between two of the world’s best teams, as Lord’s became a celebration of women’s cricket and its history.

“It felt really special to be part of such a historic event”

Rock Choir Leader Nicola Cain led the event, with fellow Rock Choir Leader Sally Creedon assisting throughout the performances.

Sally said:

“It was a quintessentially British day. It felt really special to be part of such a historic event.”

“A wall of sound hit us from the choir”

Nicola added:

“It was such an iconic event to be part of and such a special day. The atmosphere was utterly fantastic and we had great feedback from members of the public. They said it was really refreshing to have us performing and they really liked the song choices.

“When they announced Rock Choir across the tannoy and the first song started, a wall of sound hit us from the choir. It was breathtaking.”
