Elaine Stewart – Rock Choir Cumbernauld

Elaine first discovered Rock Choir after hearing the choir on Facebook during a difficult chapter in her life.

At the time, she was caring for her dad, who had dementia, and knew she needed something that was just for her. Being quiet, shy and at a low point, however, meant taking that first step felt difficult.

“I waited a year to gain the confidence to join.”

When she eventually joined her local Rock Choir in Cumbernauld, it became the start of something that would help her reconnect with singing, confidence and herself.

Finding the confidence to begin

For Elaine, joining Rock Choir was not something she rushed into. It took time, courage and the feeling that she was finally ready.

From her first experiences with the choir, she felt welcomed and supported by the people around her.

“The other members of Rock Choir welcomed me with open arms and have been so supportive and welcoming since day one.”

That warmth helped make the experience feel smoother, giving her the reassurance she needed as she began finding her place in the group.

A song that spoke to her journey

One song has become especially meaningful to Elaine.

“I would say it is ‘Mountain’ by Sam Ryder.”

The words connected deeply with what she had been through while caring for her dad and trying to find her way through a difficult time.

“The words ‘I am a mountain’ and ‘down in the valley’ are all that I have overcome.”

For Elaine, singing “Mountain” is a reminder that no matter what life brings, she has the strength to keep going.

“My rock and therapy”

After losing her dad to dementia, Elaine describes feeling alone, isolated and in a dark place.

During that time, Rock Choir became something she could lean on.

“I see Rock Choir as my rock and therapy.”

It gave her a place to go, something to focus on and people around her who helped her feel less alone.

Confidence, purpose and belonging

Elaine says joining Rock Choir has made a real difference to her life.

“Joining Rock Choir gave me confidence, purpose and a sense of belonging.”

That sense of community has become one of the most important parts of her experience, helping her rediscover the joy of singing while building friendships that mean a great deal.

“Singing lifts my mood, spirit and has given me lifelong friendships.”

Looking towards the future

For Elaine, Rock Choir has become part of moving forward after a deeply difficult time.

It has helped her feel supported, welcomed and more hopeful about what comes next.

“Joining Rock Choir has saved me and I am looking forward to what my future with Rock Choir brings.”

From finding the courage to join to becoming part of her local Rock Choir in Cumbernauld, Elaine’s story is one of music, friendship and finding light again through singing.
