Lisa Overton – Rock Choir Cornwall

Lisa first discovered Rock Choir in a way she describes as “totally old skool”, watching The Choir That Rocks, the original documentary that introduced so many people to the Rock Choir experience.

“I was hooked and couldn’t wait to join!”

When Rock Choir opened in Hayle, a small town in West Cornwall, Lisa and a group of friends signed up straight away.

“I was a Rockie from the first song!”

What started in a close-knit local choir in Hayle later continued in Truro, where Lisa remains part of the Rock Choir Cornwall community.

From Cornwall to unforgettable experiences

Over the years, Lisa has been part of many memorable moments, but one stands above the rest.

“My absolute best experience was the New York trip! What an epic event, an epic trip and to see our name in lights on the Hard Rock Cafe within spitting distance of Times Square – emotional and iconic!”

Seeing Rock Choir represented in such an iconic part of New York, a city known worldwide for music, performance and culture, made the experience even more meaningful.

Music that reflects the journey

Certain songs have come to hold a deeper meaning for Lisa.

“Mountain will always be my favourite along with Loco in Acapulco!”

Following her diagnosis of glaucoma, which affected her sight, music became an important way of expressing how she was feeling.

“Mountain documents my struggles and Loco is how I feel when I am in the body of the Rock Choir Massive in Cornwall.”

Through these songs, she has found both reflection and release, surrounded by the energy of the choir.

Support through life’s challenges

Lisa speaks openly about the challenges she has faced and the role Rock Choir has played during those times.

“I honestly am not sure where I would be… I can honestly say that I would not be here today without this amazing bunch.”

That level of support has made a lasting impact, with the Rock Choir Cornwall community providing strength, encouragement and understanding when it has been needed most.

“You are never alone”

At the heart of Lisa’s story is a powerful sense of connection.

“The beauty of Rock Choir is that you are never alone.”

From local rehearsals in Cornwall to national and international experiences, she has found friendships that feel like an extended family.

“Rockies have the biggest hearts, the warmest hugs and support that knows no bounds!”

Being part of that community has meant sharing life’s challenges, celebrating successes and always having people around her who understand.

A place that feels like home

As a long-standing member and prefect within the Rock Choir Cornwall community, Lisa continues to be part of something that means a great deal to her.

From those first rehearsals in Hayle to everything that has followed, it remains a place where she feels supported, valued and connected.

“They have my heart… always.”
