Alex’s musical journey began at eight years old, learning the trumpet at school, and later discovering a joy for singing through jazz and big band music. He went on to study Creative Music Technology at UWE Bristol and founded an inclusive choir as a student—a group he continued to lead after graduating. This experience ignited his passion for accessible, community-based music-making and led to a role as Music Coordinator at the University of Exeter. These experiences helped him realise that helping people connect through singing was what he truly loved — and discovering Rock Choir in 2015 changed everything.
Since joining Rock Choir, Alex has worked with hundreds of singers each week and built choirs that are not only musically strong but socially vibrant and deeply supportive. Alongside running rehearsals and community events, he also serves as Regional Brand Manager for Wales and the West, working to grow and support the wider team. Alex has had the joy of arranging a number of songs for the national Rock Choir repertoire. Personal favourites include Sweet Child O’ Mine, Video Killed The Radio Star, and Learn To Fly, which they first learned together at a workshop held beneath the wings of Concorde at the Bristol Aerospace Museum. He has loved developing vocal workshops and finds something magical about the shared experience of a one-off workshop.
Performing with the choirs is always a highlight, and Alex’s choirs have had the opportunity to sing in some incredible venues, including Bristol Beacon, Bath Forum, Cheltenham Town Hall, and Gloucester Cathedral. These events bring together singers from multiple choirs for powerful, uplifting shows that celebrate community and the joy of shared music-making. They’ve also enjoyed taking part in seasonal performances, from the festive atmosphere of Bath Christmas Market and Westonbirt Arboretum’s Enchanted Christmas to appearances at Bristol Zoo, Stroud Goodwill Evening, and Pittville Pump Rooms.
Among the most memorable experiences have been three performances at Highgrove House, two of which were in the presence of His Majesty King Charles. These events fill Alex with pride and excitement and stand as a testament to how far the choirs have come. Other personal highlights include two sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (a brilliant showcase of their energy and spirit) and recording at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, a dream come true for Alex and the singers alike.
At the heart of all this is Alex’s belief in the power of singing to build confidence, create community, and change lives. Whether he’s arranging music, leading a rehearsal, running a workshop, or standing on stage with hundreds of singers behind him, he feels incredibly fortunate to be part of something that brings people together in such a powerful way.
