Jo Rashbrook – Rock Choir Gravesend
Jo first discovered Rock Choir while working at a local garden centre, where she watched members performing and immediately felt drawn to what she saw.
“I saw the Rock Choir ladies in the local Garden Centre where I worked and thought I’d love to do this.”
At the time, however, life was incredibly challenging. Her husband was living with dementia and required increasing levels of care, making it difficult for Jo to find time for herself.
Eventually, after her husband moved into a care home, Jo decided it was time to attend a taster session.
“I went for a taster session and loved it.”
That decision would go on to have a profound impact on her life.
Finding friendship when it was needed most
Joining her local Rock Choir in Gravesend gave Jo something she desperately needed during a difficult period of her life.
“It has saved my sanity and I’ve made lots of friends.”
The friendships she has built through Rock Choir have become an important source of support, companionship and happiness.
Since joining in 2022, she has become part of a welcoming community that has helped her navigate a significant life change while continuing to enjoy something she has always loved.
“I’ve always loved to sing.”
Singing at Rock Choir LIVE
One of Jo’s standout memories came at Rock Choir LIVE at the NEC in Birmingham.
Sharing the experience with thousands of fellow Rockies and singing along with the event’s special guests created a memory she will never forget.
The scale, atmosphere and energy of Rock Choir LIVE made it a highlight of her Rock Choir journey.
A performance that made a difference
While large events have been exciting, one of Jo’s favourite memories comes from a local performance that had a special meaning.
“Singing at a local school sixth form for children with special educational needs.”
Performances like these highlight the positive impact Rock Choir can have within local communities, bringing people together through music and shared experiences.
For Jo, it remains one of the most rewarding moments she has experienced as a member.
Music, friendship and a new chapter
Looking back, Jo says joining Rock Choir was one of the best decisions she could have made.
