Carol Taylor – Rock Choir Luton & Dunstable
For eight difficult years, Carol felt as though she had gradually lost a part of herself.
While experiencing issues with menopause, the person who had enjoyed having fun and socialising didn’t feel quite so familiar anymore.
As she began to feel a little better, Carol spotted an advert for Rock Choir and remembered something a good school friend had once told her.
Her friend had joined a Rock Choir in London and was loving it.
Carol wondered whether it might be for her too.
Finding herself again
There were some doubts at first, but it didn’t take long for Carol to realise how much she enjoyed being part of her local Rock Choir in Luton and Dunstable.
“I wondered at first if it was for me, but I soon realised how much it lifted my spirits.”
Singing became part of a wider journey towards regaining the confidence she felt she had lost.
“Joining Rock Choir helped me find myself again.”
But for Carol, it wasn’t only the music that made the difference.
She found herself surrounded by welcoming people, began making new friends and once again had an opportunity to enjoy being sociable.
A Christmas performance to remember
One particular memory captures that renewed sense of confidence for Carol.
Performing in Ashton Square in Dunstable at Christmas was already a wonderfully festive experience, but there was another reason the occasion meant so much to her.
It was the first time her partner had seen her perform with the choir.
“I felt quite proud to be part of it.”
It was a simple moment, but an important one: sharing something she had grown to love with someone close to her and feeling proud of her place within it.
More than the joy of singing
Carol joined because she remembered how much her friend had enjoyed Rock Choir. What she found for herself was somewhere she could sing, socialise and continue rebuilding her confidence alongside people who made her feel welcome.
“For me the best part is not just the joy of singing, but the people.”
After a period when Carol felt she had lost the part of herself that enjoyed fun and being around others, those connections have become particularly meaningful.
For Carol, simply being part of such a welcoming group of people has become one of the things she values most.
